There is never in my paintings a transcription of a precise place, I use my sketches, photographs taken on the fly or a story read or told to me. For this painting, there is as much the memory of Alejo Carpentier’s dreamlike visions in his book -The Sharing of the Waters- as my stays in the jungles or my admiration for Gauguin and his lost paradise. It is then necessary to give a concrete, physical form to these different sensations that are superimposed in the memory. We then pass from the intangible to the tangible!
