About this artist

Biography

J.L. Martin, born in 1955 in the Netherlands, studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp – department of painting, from 1974 to 1978.

His work is about the fragmentation of the image of man and, as such, the creation of a penetrating detachment. Martin wants to make statues that radiate timelessness as well and that live, as it were, in a new different reality. Stylistically speaking, we see common ground with contemporary technologies such as robotology and digitalisation.

His method can be described as isolating parts of reality by means of, among others, 3 D plastics. Thus he shows, rather by suggestion than by actual portrayal, as many visual elements as possible . In addition, the rhythm only serves to achieve unity and to exclude personal preferences.
